National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has fired back at former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s allegations, insisting he will not be drawn into political disputes. In a statement released Tuesday on social media, Ribadu made it clear that his sole focus is on his national assignment and safeguarding Nigeria’s interests.
El-Rufai recently claimed during a television interview that Ribadu harbors ambitions to run for president in 2031 and intends to eliminate northern political contenders. Ribadu, however, dismissed these allegations as unfounded and politically motivated, emphasizing that his energy is fully devoted to addressing critical security challenges and supporting the Tinubu administration.
Ribadu stressed that his silence on these matters should not be misconstrued as tacit acceptance. Instead, he explained that he is too occupied with his current responsibilities to engage in media battles or personal political skirmishes. His commitment remains firmly on advancing national security and promoting stability.
Highlighting their shared history, Ribadu noted that despite repeated provocations from El-Rufai, he has refrained from responding disparagingly out of respect for their longstanding association and the families involved. He underscored that his professional focus is on ensuring Nigeria’s progress rather than engaging in partisan bickering.
In a pointed remark, Ribadu urged El-Rufai to concentrate on his own political pursuits instead of trying to influence public discourse about his personal ambitions. “I ask Nasir El-Rufai to allow me to perform my national assignment without distraction, just as I steer clear of his affairs,” he stated.
Ribadu concluded his statement by reaffirming his unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s progress under President Tinubu’s leadership, urging the public to ignore baseless rumors about his alleged presidential ambitions and to instead focus on the positive strides being made in national security and governance.
