Former President Olusegun Obasanjo praised Governor Godwin Obaseki on Wednesday, highlighting his transformative impact on the lives of Edo State citizens. Speaking at the inauguration of the newly rebuilt and expanded 250-bed Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin City.

Obasanjo commended Obaseki’s multi-sectoral reforms over the past eight years, describing the governor as a visionary builder and reformer.“Your multi-sectoral reforms over the last eight years are commendable. I applaud you for enhancing initiatives started by your predecessors, like the Stella Obasanjo Hospital,” Obasanjo remarked. He emphasized that by honoring the memory of his late wife, Stella Obasanjo, the governor was also honoring him.

Obasanjo encouraged political leaders to prioritize human capital development, stressing that quality and efficient service at every government level can greatly benefit citizens. He noted that the rebuilt hospital is a testament to visionary leadership, showcasing Edo State’s commitment to accessible, quality healthcare.

“This hospital is a shining example of what can be achieved for the well-being of our people,” he said. He further added that it would bridge the gap between primary and specialized healthcare, making care accessible to all. Also present was former First Lady Patience Jonathan, who praised Obaseki for restoring hope to Edo citizens and positioning the state as a center for affordable healthcare in Nigeria.
