Edo State youths have asserted that there is no alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, in the upcoming governorship election on September 21.
The youths expressed unwavering confidence in Okpebholo’s ability to emerge victorious in the election, considering it a predetermined outcome. They firmly believe that Okpebholo’s leadership embodies a transformative vision that is long overdue.
Speaking on behalf of Esan youths, community leaders, and women in Igueben, the President General of Esan Youths Movement, Jonathan Omozokpia, emphasized that Okpebholo’s gubernatorial aspirations have garnered widespread support, both locally and internationally. Omozokpia highlighted Okpebholo’s grassroots appeal and predicted his triumph in the upcoming election.
The youths emphasized that Okpebholo’s candidacy is a response to the collective plea of respected individuals, including traditional rulers, prominent politicians, and Edo professionals worldwide, who seek a leader capable of revitalizing the state and steering it towards prosperity.
In contrast, they dismissed the candidacy of Asue Ighodalo, branding him as an outsider lacking in local connection and values, while affirming that Okpebholo resonates with their principles.
Furthermore, the youths commended the judiciary for nullifying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary that resulted in Ighodalo’s candidacy, viewing the court’s decision as a victory for democratic principles.
They expressed dissatisfaction with Governor Godwin Obaseki’s performance, citing a need for transformative leadership to rescue Edo State from stagnation and mismanagement. The youths called for a departure from past failures and emphasized the urgency of decisive action to address the state’s challenges.
Lastly, they applauded the recent defection of PDP members to the APC, viewing it as a positive step towards strengthening the party’s prospects in the upcoming election.
