Over the last couple of years, I have restricted my activities and commentaries on the social media to just motivational and a bit of social posts, for some personal reasons.
In doing this, I have had to apply strong efforts to hold myself back from reacting to a number of trash spewed here by many poor minds and characters who by all standards should have no place in a community of sane minded people.
Just yesterday, at the federal high court complex in Abuja Omoyele Sowore was seen in a video recorded by himself, attacking security agents. Ordinarily, reacting to his likes only amounts to glorifying and giving some level of relevance to a toddler who knows nothing but mud slinging, given the fact that public nuisance has long been his stuck-in-trade.
My worry however, is in the fact that I still see a few Nigerians clapping for him and that has really got me worried and wondering whether they don’t see the dangers his constant unprovoked attacks on well-meaning, law abiding Nigerians and our security agents – in the name public nuisance activities he tagged of `rights activismʼ – portends? But then, I think the support the hand-full still give to him can only be because of one or both of the following two reasons. It is either they see him as a jester – one who they turn to for comic relief, or they are also degenerates like himself. Either way, the likes of Sowore should not be tolerated anymore than we should the bandits/terrorists in the north and the unknown gunmen in the east.
To think that this man with such a poor upbringing, zero composure and low decorum can even imagine himself presiding over the affairs of a local government–talk more of a country–is a very big slap on our faces and a spit on our collective intelligence.
Nigerians must understand that there is a lot of difference between rights activism and arrogance/public nuisance. We must understand that there is a tin-line between agitating for civil rights and abuse or disregard for human rights. This character called Sowore is a misunderstanding and a direct opposite of what a rights activist should be. Let us not be carried away by him and his co-travelers’ constant presence and clout chasing on the social media, as they are only looking for oil to lick.
