Ondo Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reaffirmed his determination to prioritize good governance following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his election. The development came after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Agboola Ajayi, withdrew his appeal against the November 16, 2024, governorship election outcome.
Speaking through his Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, Aiyedatiwa explained that the judgment finally ended all litigations connected to the election. With legal distractions resolved, the governor stressed that his administration would now focus on fulfilling promises made to the people of Ondo State.
The governor commended Agboola Ajayi for his sportsmanship, describing it as a step toward political peace and stability. He also appreciated President Bola Tinubu and APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for their unwavering support. Aiyedatiwa called on political leaders across party divides to unite in building a stronger, more prosperous Ondo State.
Meanwhile, the recently concluded Ondo State pension verification exercise has stirred mixed reactions. Retirees expressed frustration over long queues, inadequate facilities, and the stress associated with manual processes. They urged the government to adopt technology-driven solutions that would ease verification and restore dignity to pensioners.
In defense, Permanent Secretary Bunmi Alade explained that pensioners must appear physically with documents such as retirement approval letters, BVN, identity cards, and payment vouchers. He emphasized that proxies would not be accepted but noted that special provisions were available to assist elderly and frail retirees.
By reaffirming his governance priorities and addressing pensioners’ concerns, Ondo Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa signaled readiness to balance leadership with reforms that directly impact citizens’ welfare.
