Ondo poll: ZLP debunks mergence with PDP, Says party very much in the race

As the election in Ondo State draws closer, the Zenith Labour Party, on Tuesday, said it remained very much in the contest and working hard to win, affirming that the ZLP is not planning any merger with the People’s Democratic Party.

The stance went counter to rumours that the ZLP’s leadership had made plans to disband the party and hand it over to the state’s Peoples Democratic Party.

The party insisted on being one of the 16 political parties running in the upcoming governorship election and denied such plans.

In a phone interview with news platforms, the party’s state chairman, Mr. Cornelius Akintoye, stated that the party was still in the race and had no intention of merging with any other political party before the governorship election.

However, he pointed out that the party leadership was aware of some individuals’ efforts to join the PDP.

“I am the Zenith Labour Party’s state chairman in Ondo State. As we are ready to take part in the next election, I would like to provide you an update. We are working on our campaign and are totally committed.

He, however, mentioned that the party has discovered that some people are posing as members of our party and might be taking money from the APC or PDP, affirming that such people do not represent our organisation and are not members of its party.

In the same vein, the candidate of the party, Dr. Abass Mimiko, denied the reported planned merger with the PDP. Mimiko simply declared, “No way!” Never! We are going to win the election, Insha Allah.”
