The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has confirmed ongoing discussions with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) about a potential merger in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This was disclosed during a joint press conference in Abuja by PRP National Chairman, Falalu Bello, and his ADC counterpart, Ralphs Nwosu.
The announcement follows remarks by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing the possibility of any opposition coalition unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The APC was reacting to statements by Atiku Abubakar’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, who suggested that Atiku and Peter Obi had learned valuable lessons from the last election and were prepared to unite against the ruling party.
Bello, however, emphasized the PRP’s openness to alliances that align with its mission to rescue the nation from the current administration. He highlighted the party’s historical success with alliances, recalling its 1979 partnership with other parties to win Kaduna State’s governorship election. “Our doors are open not just to parties but also to individuals committed to genuine change,” Bello noted.
He accused the PDP and APC of engaging in money-driven politics that undermines the people’s welfare, describing them as “two sides of the same coin.” Bello stressed that the PRP is ready to lead a coalition focused on pro-people governance and hinted at the willingness of party leaders, including himself, to step aside if necessary for the greater good.
The call for alliances has also been echoed by the Coalition of United Political Parties and the Social Democratic Party, which advocate for a broader coalition beyond Atiku and Obi. This growing movement reflects a collective resolve among opposition parties to present a united front against the ruling APC in the next elections.
