APC chieftain Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has urged President Bola Tinubu to fully enforce his executive order on drug price reduction.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo, Oyintiloye noted that despite Tinubu’s directive, essential medicines remain unaffordable for most Nigerians.
He stressed that although the order introduced zero tariffs, excise duties, and VAT exemptions, its impact has not been felt.
Oyintiloye recalled that in March 2025, the Nigeria Customs Service announced the commencement of the order’s implementation nationwide.
However, he lamented that drug prices, including life-saving medicines like insulin, Metformin, and Exforge, remain beyond the masses’ affordability.
He therefore appealed to President Tinubu to ensure strict enforcement, allowing local manufacturers to lower drug prices sustainably.
Oyintiloye further commended Tinubu for subsidising kidney dialysis, reducing the cost per session from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.
He explained that this initiative significantly eases financial burdens on vulnerable Nigerians already struggling under harsh economic conditions and healthcare costs.
According to him, the subsidy demonstrates Tinubu’s passion for citizens’ well-being, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to quality healthcare delivery.
