The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing another internal crisis, this time in the South-South zone. A meeting convened by the party’s zonal leadership in Benin, Edo State, has sparked tensions within the zone.
At the center of the controversy is the party’s South-South National Vice-Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, who called the meeting. However, the South-South Zonal Secretary of the party, Chief Felix Omemu, has condemned the planned gathering, describing it as illegal.
Omemu argued that the meeting violated the PDP Constitution, which mandates that the Zonal Executive Council can only convene a meeting with the approval of the Zonal Working Committee. He claimed that no such approval had been given, raising concerns over the legitimacy of the meeting.
The zonal secretary urged PDP leaders in the zone to avoid the meeting, alleging that it was convened to further harm the party’s interests. He warned that attending the meeting could have untoward consequences.
The controversy has exposed deep-seated divisions within the PDP South-South zone. The party has been grappling with internal conflicts, and this latest development is likely to worsen the situation.
