The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken decisive action by suspending Chief Dan Orbih, the Party’s National Vice Chairman (South-South), following allegations of anti-party activities. This decision, made during the NWC’s 588th meeting on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, reflects concerns raised by various party members, including the Edo State PDP Youth League (EPYL), over Chief Orbih’s conduct in relation to the upcoming September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State.
In an official statement issued by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the NWC expressed unanimous condemnation of Chief Orbih’s purported actions and statements concerning the Edo State Governorship Primary Election. The committee emphasized that his behavior was inconsistent with the party’s constitution, particularly the responsibilities expected of a national officer.
To address these concerns, the NWC has established a special six-member committee led by Deputy National Chairman (South), Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, tasked with thoroughly investigating the allegations against Chief Orbih. Pending the conclusion of this investigation, Chief Orbih has been suspended from participating in any party meetings, activities, or programs.
Furthermore, the NWC affirmed its solidarity with the majority of Edo State residents who support the PDP and its gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo. The committee called upon party leaders, stakeholders, and members in Edo State to remain united and focused on ensuring victory in the forthcoming election, emphasizing the importance of working collectively towards the state’s continued development under the PDP’s platform. This action underscores the PDP’s commitment to upholding party discipline and ensuring that its members adhere to the principles and guidelines set forth in its constitution. The NWC’s decision aims to maintain internal cohesion and strengthen the party’s prospects in the upcoming electoral contest, reflecting its dedication to democratic processes and responsible leadership within its ranks.
