The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to reclaim the presidency in 2027, admitting its shortcomings in the 2023 elections. Speaking to reporters, National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu assured the public that the party is prepared to learn from its past mistakes and return stronger in the next general elections.
“We made a mistake in the 2023 elections, but what matters for us is to take back the presidency in 2027,” Anyanwu said, emphasizing the party’s focus on unity and rebuilding. He dismissed claims of internal divisions, insisting that the PDP, under Umar Damagum’s leadership, remains stable.
Anyanwu highlighted that the party has successfully conducted congresses in 29 states with minimal challenges, describing the issues as typical in any political organization. He also spoke about his longstanding friendship with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, tracing their bond back to their days as council chairmen.
Acknowledging grievances against Wike, Anyanwu advised that such matters should be addressed through the PDP Disciplinary Committee, reaffirming the party’s commitment to due process.
On his position as national secretary, Anyanwu addressed a recent Court of Appeal ruling for his removal. He clarified that his tenure remains valid, citing a pending Supreme Court appeal, a stay of execution, and a Federal High Court judgment in his favor. “Legally, I remain the national secretary until the Supreme Court decides,” he asserted.
