As local government elections approach, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has officially launched the campaign for the Plateau South Senatorial District elections, generating excitement and optimism among residents.
The event was marked by celebrations, as supporters gathered to express their enthusiasm for the upcoming electoral process.
During his address, Governor Mutfwang emphasized that these elections are crucial for advancing development in rural communities across the state.
He highlighted the potential for progress and better living conditions, stating that the elected officials will play a vital role in addressing the needs of the people.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the citizens for their strong support of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he believes represents a bright future for Plateau State.
He reiterated the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving the state’s developmental goals.
Mutfwang thanked the Southern Zone for their overwhelming backing during the 2023 elections and called upon them to replicate that support in the upcoming local elections on October 9, 2024.
He assured residents that his administration is committed to improving infrastructure in the Southern Senatorial Zone, announcing significant funding for key projects, including electricity provision, clean water supply, and the development of a reliable road network.
Moreover, the Governor pledged to foster an inclusive government, assuring citizens that individuals who contested for various positions but were not elected would still have opportunities to contribute to governance.
This approach aims to ensure that all voices are heard and that the government benefits from a wide range of perspectives.
The Governor urged the people of Plateau South to rally behind the PDP, emphasizing that their support is essential for ushering in a new era of tangible democratic benefits for the district.
“I want to assure you that my administration is fully committed to delivering on its promises,” he stated. “By the grace of God, I will journey with you throughout this administration.”
He also emphasized the readiness of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) to conduct free, fair, and credible elections, highlighting the importance of transparent electoral processes in restoring public trust in governance.
In a show of solidarity, the Governor presented flags to all PDP chairmanship candidates in the zone, symbolizing the party’s commitment to a united front in the elections.

Earlier, Governor Mutfwang paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, Miskoom Martin Sheldas III, the Long Gamai of the Gamai Nation.
During this visit, he thanked the traditional ruler for his support during the 2023 elections and appealed for continued backing ahead of the local government elections to foster further development in the Council Area.
In response, His Royal Highness reaffirmed the commitment of the people of Shendam LGA to support the Governor’s transformative political vision, showcasing a strong alliance between traditional leadership and modern governance.
