Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has scheduled the local government elections for October 9, 2024. The chairman of the commission, Plangji Cishak, disclosed this information yesterday during a gathering with leaders of political parties at the bureau’s headquarters in Jos, the state’s capital.
He announced that the elections would encompass all 17 local government areas currently under the administration of Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) chairmen.
Reflecting on previous interactions with party stakeholders, the chairman stated, “Today, we are embarking on one of our most crucial responsibilities as a commission: overseeing elections. It is imperative that we issue the election notice for 2024 at this juncture.”

In accordance with Section 64 of the Local Government Elections Act and our mandate outlined in Part 4, section 16, subsection 1 and 22, subsection 1 of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) Law, 2016, as well as Section 197 (1 and 2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, amended in 2023, and the Electoral Act 2022. The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission hereby notifies all political party leaders and the general public that elections will be held in the 17 local government councils of Plateau State on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Subsequently, all potential candidates are required to procure nomination forms for the election into the positions of chairmen and councilors of the 17 local government councils from the PLASIEC headquarters at Number 7, John Mark Sanchiro, Jos, from Thursday, August 1, 2024, to Monday, August 5, 2024, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.”
In line with the Electoral Act, political party campaign activities are set to commence on Friday, July 12, 2024, as determined by the commission, while party primaries and dispute resolution will occur between July 29, 2024, and August 8, 2024, as stipulated by the commission. Moreover, “The acquisition of nomination forms for candidates by political parties will take place from Friday, August 9, 2024, to Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

The submission of nomination forms for candidates by political parties will be accepted from Wednesday, August 14, 2024, to Monday, August 19, 2024. The final day for political parties to conduct campaigns is Monday, October 7, 2024, until midnight, and any run-off/supplementary election, if necessary, is scheduled for Saturday, October 12, 2024,” he elaborated.
He urged political parties and stakeholders to extend their support and cooperation to PLASIEC in order to “arrange, execute, and oversee a local government council election in Plateau that is impartial, equitable, trustworthy, and transparent.”
