The South-West Governors Forum has expressed deep sadness over the passing of Chief Ayo Adebanjo, a renowned elder statesman and Afenifere chieftain.
Adebanjo, who died at the age of 96, was a celebrated lawyer, politician, and rights activist who dedicated his life to fighting for justice and equality.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, who is also the chairman of the South-West Governors Forum, described Adebanjo’s death as a colossal loss to the country and the Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere.
Sanwo-Olu praised Adebanjo’s record of service to the Yoruba nation and Nigeria, saying his legacies would remain indelible for generations to come.
The governor also commiserated with the Adebanjo family, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the entire Isanyan Ogbo community in Ijebu, Ogun State.
Adebanjo was a fearless and courageous man who fought for truth, equity, and justice, Sanwo-Olu said, adding that he was a hero of democracy who teamed up with other progressives to fight against the annulment of the June 12 election.
The South-West Governors Forum has pledged to continue Adebanjo’s legacy of fighting for justice and equality. Adebanjo’s death has been described as an irreplaceable loss to the people of Ijebu and Ogun State.
