The socio-political group Afenifere has expressed discontent with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of failing to show empathy toward Nigerians suffering from severe economic hardship.
Following a recent meeting held at the home of Afenifere leader Pa Ayo Adebanjo in Isanya-Ogbo, Ogun State, the group voiced concern over the federal government’s perceived detachment from widespread hardship, insecurity, and hunger affecting citizens.
In a statement signed by Afenifere’s Deputy Leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, and Deputy Secretary-General, Alade Rotimi-John, the organization lamented the administration’s policies, suggesting that instead of relief, recent moves like the hike in fuel prices have only intensified Nigerians’ burden. The communique highlighted a lack of actionable strategies aimed at addressing the pressing needs of the population.
Afenifere noted the absence of an effective government response to the worsening economic and social conditions, which it claimed were marked by continuous insecurity and pervasive hunger across the country.
The group cited a “distressing state” in which citizens are left without support amid escalating challenges. The organization called on the Tinubu administration to develop a clear plan to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, urging the government to demonstrate understanding and take measures that prioritize the welfare of the people.
