Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani, renowned as “El Matador,” officially declared the conclusion of his illustrious international career at the age of 37.
Cavani, the second-highest goal scorer in Uruguayan history and third in terms of appearances netting 58 goals in 136 matches, expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to represent his beloved nation. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, he dedicated his decision to retire to the cherished Celeste, the affectionate moniker for the Uruguayan national squad.
“I have been and will forever be grateful for the privilege of donning this jersey to embody my deepest passion, my homeland,” Cavani conveyed, emphasizing his commitment to embarking on a new chapter in his professional journey and channeling his unwavering dedication towards his future endeavors.

While bidding farewell to his international career, Cavani assured his enduring support for the team, reminiscing about the exhilaration of competing in the distinctive sky blue uniform that holds a special place in his heart.
Debuting for Uruguay in 2008, Cavani showcased his exceptional talent on the global stage by participating in four FIFA World Cup tournaments, notably earning acclaim as the standout performer during the 2010 edition where he propelled his team to the semi-finals.
Despite his numerous achievements, Cavani’s most memorable triumph in the national colors was securing victory in the 2011 Copa America held in neighboring Argentina, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career.
Having previously plied his trade for esteemed clubs such as Napoli, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United, Cavani currently plies his trade for the esteemed Argentine side Boca Juniors.
