Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed deep sorrow over the tanker explosion at Dikko Junction, Niger State, which resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President extended condolences to the bereaved families, as well as the government and residents of Niger State.
The Vice President assured Nigerians that the federal government is committed to preventing similar tragedies. His statement aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for immediate medical aid to survivors and the implementation of stricter highway safety measures.
The tragedy occurred when a fuel tanker overturned while en route from Kaduna to Gwagwalada. The incident has sparked nationwide concern, with the federal government announcing a review of transportation safety protocols to address the risks associated with fuel-laden vehicles.
President Tinubu has also instructed the National Orientation Agency to initiate a nationwide awareness campaign, warning citizens about the dangers of approaching accident scenes involving fuel tankers. The campaign aims to educate the public on safety measures to prevent further loss of lives.
