The African Democratic Congress believes Tinubu exceeded constitutional powers in his handling of the Rivers State political crisis.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said Shettima’s remarks were constitutionally accurate and should not be watered down for politics.
He stated that Tinubu exceeded constitutional powers by allegedly suspending an elected governor without legal or constitutional justification.
Abdullahi emphasized that the constitution forbids a president from removing elected local or state officials unilaterally.
He reminded Nigerians that Jonathan respected constitutional limits, even while confronting security emergencies in Borno and other states.
“In 2014, Shettima himself was protected by legal principles, not political favors or media manipulations,” Abdullahi said.
He called Shettima’s recent comments courageous and urged the Vice President to stand firm amid political controversy.
The ADC warned that President Tinubu has set a very dangerous precedent for Nigerian democracy.
“Truth must rise above spin — the constitution isn’t optional; it is binding on everyone,” the party added.
The ADC urged Tinubu to withdraw federal interference and allow democratic processes to resume fully in Rivers State.
