The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee in Kano, has urged to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to consider other peaceful approaches to resolving its ongoing disagreement with the Federal Government instead of resorting to another strike.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Comrade Muddassir Hamza Dankaka on Thursday, the students’ body said strikes continue to inflict serious problems on ordinary Nigerian students who are already struggling with economic hardship and unstable academic calendars.
The body, led by Comrade Yunus Halliru, said students are the ones who suffer the most whenever classrooms are shut down.
“Continuous strike actions land the hardest blow on the children of ordinary Nigerian students,” the statement said.
It added that each disruption pushes them further behind and widens the gap they struggle daily to close.
NANS JCC Kano called on ASUU and the Federal Government to embrace open dialogue, honest negotiation and responsible decision-making that prioritises the future of young Nigerians.
The group insisted that students should not be turned into victims of disputes they did not cause.
“Students must not become collateral damage in disputes they did not create,” the statement added.
