The ADC coalition to rescue Nigeria’s democracy is not about Atiku, Obi, or El-Rufai, says Atiku Abubakar.
He clarified that the opposition movement remains focused on reclaiming democracy, not individual political ambitions for 2027.
Speaking in Abuja, Atiku’s media adviser, Mazi Paul Ibe, emphasized the coalition’s goal during a press interaction yesterday.
He said the objective is to shield Nigeria’s democracy from APC’s manipulation, not to challenge President Tinubu personally.
“This isn’t an anti-Tinubu project; it’s a pro-Nigeria cause where citizens must be the primary beneficiaries,” he noted.
Atiku warned that APC’s latest moves suggest an early strategy to rig the 2027 general elections using compromised systems.
He condemned the appointment of a former INEC commissioner who headed the IT department as APC national chairman recently.
According to him, this decision shows that the ruling party prioritizes electoral control over transparent democratic processes.
He argued that no serious democracy should allow a former electoral officer to suddenly lead a dominant political party.
“This is not a coincidence. It’s a calculated attempt to rig elections before campaigns officially begin,” he added.
Atiku stressed that opposition parties must unite now, as any internal cracks would benefit those clinging desperately to power.
He warned that disunity within the coalition would only give APC room to exploit and weaken the opposition’s collective strength.
He reaffirmed that this movement transcends personalities like himself, Obi, El-Rufai, or Amaechi, focusing instead on national salvation.
“Our job is to help Nigerians rebuild their country and reclaim democracy, not to chase individual presidential ambitions,” he said.
“Our strength lies in unity. If we remain focused and united, no amount of manipulation can suppress Nigerians’ will,” he concluded.
For context, the ADC-led coalition includes multiple parties and political figures hoping to unseat APC in the 2027 elections.
