Veteran journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, resigns from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a letter dated July 17, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Edo State, Momodu cited “the hijacking of the party by antidemocratic forces” as his reason for exiting. The resignation takes immediate effect.
“Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces in broad daylight,” Momodu said in his resignation letter.
“It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them and align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
Momodu, who joined the PDP in 2021 and contested its presidential primaries in 2023, said the party’s internal dysfunctions made genuine progress impossible. He thanked his local ward executives for years of steadfast support.
Dele Momodu resigns from PDP and move to ADC marks a strategic realignment in Edo State’s political terrain and energizes opposition efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political observers believe his defection reflects growing dissatisfaction within PDP ranks, especially after several failed reconciliation efforts. The move follows a broader trend of prominent PDP figures leaving due to unresolved grievances.
Momodu’s switch also underscores the rising profile of the ADC as a possible unifying platform for opposition interests.
