The PDP chairman Ogun warns defectors in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that many politicians who left the party now play a minor role in their new party. Abayomi Tella said defectors often get sidelined because they were not part of APC’s foundation or its earlier campaigns.
Several PDP members, including the immediate past chairman Sikirulai Ogundele and the former deputy governorship candidate in 2023, joined APC in July 2025. Tella explained that these politicians were not fully integrated and remain onlookers.
“It is no longer enviable to move from PDP to APC,” he said. “Those who were absent during the party’s victories remain outsiders.”
Tella emphasized that the PDP is ready to welcome back influential politicians such as Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, and former Governor Ibikunle Amosun. He said the party could use rifts within APC to attract these figures if they fail to secure tickets.
“Part of politics is rift, and PDP gaining from it is also part of politics,” Tella said. “If Abiodun or OGD needs a platform, we will bring them back. Their return would strengthen the party.”
Reiterating the party’s strength, Tella said PDP remains deeply rooted in Ogun State. “PDP is here to stay. The party can never die. If you try to kill it today, it will resurrect tomorrow,” he said. “We are working to keep our members united.”
Political analysts note that the PDP chairman Ogun warns defectors message signals a strategic plan to regain influence while highlighting internal challenges in the ruling APC.
