Concerned PDP Stakeholders in Enugu State have strongly dismissed defection rumors and pledged continued loyalty to the party.
While addressing journalists after their Friday meeting in Enugu, they declared the PDP remains their only political platform moving forward.
Their firm stance follows growing speculation that Governor Peter Mbah may soon defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, the stakeholders emphasized that, despite challenges, they remain united in their commitment to strengthening the PDP.
Leading the group, Ozo Okey Ozoani, former PDP vice chairman in Enugu, said their forum includes ward and LGA leaders.
According to him, they are resolved to keep the party united and reject divisive maneuvers by those leaving for ADC.
He also criticized the defection of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and others to ADC, calling it politically irresponsible.
“We are here to renew hope among PDP members and tell them the party remains the most formidable platform,” he stated.
Ozoani also reminded the press that Enugu has remained a PDP-dominated state since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1998.
Although some members feel the party is weakening, he believes ongoing grassroots mobilization efforts will rebuild that lost confidence.
He stressed that the PDP is neither broken nor in disarray and will remain dominant in the next general elections.
Moreover, Ozoani claimed many defectors were behind recent leadership disputes involving Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s position as National Secretary.
According to him, Anyanwu followed party rules when contesting elections and was never legally removed from office.
He further argued that defectors caused disruption within the party and are now abandoning ship after causing confusion.
Stakeholders Reaffirm Loyalty Despite Unconfirmed Mbah Rumors
On the rumored APC defection by Governor Mbah, Ozoani maintained it remains speculation without official confirmation from the governor.
He emphasized that many PDP loyalists, including himself, would not follow Mbah should such a defection ever happen.
Meanwhile, former Udi LGA chairman, Engr Nicholas Obiora Ozonsi, reiterated that Governor Mbah has not made any public statement.
He assured that, regardless of any political shift, loyal members will preserve the PDP and continue championing its values.
“We stand with the PDP and will ensure its survival, no matter what political moves others may choose,” he declared.
