Former Governor Liyel Imoke and ex-Minister Usani Usani have officially declared support for the ADC Cross River political coalition.
They made the announcement during a major stakeholders’ meeting, marking a bold realignment in the state’s opposition politics.
According to Imoke, who now leads ADC in Cross River, the coalition aims to reverse governance failures at every level.
He emphasized that Nigeria is facing worsening poverty, hardship, and hunger due to failed leadership and broken political promises.
“Nigerians are hungry, not just for food, but for change and leadership that prioritizes the people,” Imoke stated.
He introduced Usani as the ADC National Vice Chairman (South-South) and announced Jackie Wayas as Deputy Publicity Secretary.
Imoke also recalled the 1998 struggle, stressing that this coalition is built on vision, not personal ambition or recycled leadership.
Meanwhile, Usani explained that he left the APC because of its unfulfilled promises and growing disconnect from the grassroots.
He affirmed that ADC would serve as a platform for a new generation of purposeful and people-oriented leaders across the region.
“We’re building a coalition based on principle and shared goals—not selfish ambition or power-for-power’s sake,” Usani added.
The meeting also saw former Speaker Bassey Ewa move a motion for other political parties to collapse into the ADC.
This proposal was seconded by former Information Commissioner, Chief Akin Ricketts, receiving wide support from attendees.
Dr. John Ogar, the state ADC Chairman, welcomed the new entrants and promised to establish ADC offices in all 196 wards.
He also confirmed that the coalition would reconvene in Calabar at the end of August 2025 to strengthen strategic planning.
