Following President Bola Tinubu’s recent appointments, which designated Muhammad Babangida—son of former military President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida—as chairman, Bank of Agriculture, he has formally accepted the position.
Recall Umpire News reported on July 18 that President Bola Tinubu approved the appointment of Muhammad Babangida as chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.
The appointments which Mr Tinubu approved on July 18, was made public by Special Assistant to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on his verified X handle.
53-year old Babangida is an alumnus of the European University in Montreux, Switzerland, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Relations and Business Communication. He later attended Harvard Business School’s Executive Program on Corporate Governance in 2002.
Babangida publicly confirmed his acceptance of the appointment as Chairmam of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA). He distanced himself from viral reports suggesting he declined the appointment.
In a statement issued on Monday, Mr Babangida described as “false and malicious” social media reports purporting he rejected the appointment made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He said the claims were part of a deliberate effort to mislead the public and undermine the integrity of the current administration.
“We wish to clarify that Muhammed gratefully accepts the appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, as announced by the federal government, and extends his sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him,” the statement read.
Babangida was one of several appointees appointed by President Tinubu into various federal agencies, to serve as Chairmen or Directors-General.
