Nigeria Police Declare British National Wanted for Plotting to Overthrow Government

The Nigerian Police have announced that Andrew Wynne, a British national, is wanted for his alleged involvement in a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government. Wynne, who is also known by the names Andrew Povich and Drew Povey, is under investigation for his suspected role in this serious conspiracy.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, disclosed details about the case during a press briefing at Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday. According to Adejobi, Wynne had been using a rented space at Labour House in Abuja for a business named ‘Iva Valley Bookshop’ and established ‘STARS of Nations Schools’ as a front for his activities. The police believe that these businesses were used to mask his true intentions and facilitate his subversive actions.

The investigation has revealed that Wynne was deeply involved in organizing and overseeing protests that took place in August. He allegedly provided both financial backing and operational guidance to those involved in the protests, with the aim of achieving an unconstitutional change in government. The police have gathered documentary evidence and confessions from suspects that indicate Wynne’s direct involvement in directing and monitoring these activities.

Adejobi emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force is undertaking a comprehensive investigation into Wynne’s activities and those of other foreign nationals who are suspected of plotting to undermine Nigeria’s democratically elected government. “The Nigeria Police Force has launched a thorough probe into the activities of this foreign national and other subversive elements who are trying to disrupt our democratic processes,” Adejobi said. He explained that the aim of the plot was to orchestrate violence and chaos in the country to justify an illegal takeover.

The investigation has led to the arrest of nine individuals who are believed to have received substantial financial support from foreign sources to help destabilize Nigeria. These suspects are accused of planning and funding violent protests, spreading false information, and engaging in other unlawful activities intended to create unrest and support their attempt to overthrow the government.

The police are continuing their efforts to gather more information and evidence regarding the full extent of the plot. They are working closely with other security agencies to ensure that all involved parties are identified and held accountable. This case underscores the challenges faced by Nigeria in maintaining security and stability in the face of both domestic and international threats.
