The Osun PDP endorsement of President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections has sparked political discussions nationwide.
Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, clarified that the endorsement reflected the state party’s strategy—not personal allegiance.
Speaking Thursday on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Oyinlola emphasized the move was entirely orchestrated by the Osun PDP leadership.
“The endorsement was the party’s collective decision. Personally, I have no reason to return to the APC,” he stated firmly.
Oyinlola, who helped form the APC as the national secretary of the New PDP bloc, emphasized his stance remained unchanged.
He also stressed that the endorsement should not be misinterpreted as political realignment or a betrayal of past principles.
“It’s a political chess game,” Oyinlola said, suggesting deeper strategic intentions that the public may not fully understand.
When pressed to clarify his statement, Oyinlola declined, saying disclosure would compromise the PDP’s strategic electoral position.
He maintained that his support for the party’s position does not affect his integrity or long-standing political convictions.
Politics, he said, demands pragmatic decisions that often challenge public expectations but aim to secure tangible electoral results.
The endorsement came after a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Oke-Fia, Osogbo, which included PDP leadership.
According to the communique released, the Osun PDP described Tinubu as a “son of the soil” and pledged re-election support.
“The PDP in Osun acknowledges President Bola Tinubu’s ancestral roots here and endorses his re-election bid in 2027,” it read.
This marks a significant political shift within the party, though internal discussions suggest it’s a calculated electoral maneuver.
