A scandal is brewing in Osun State, Nigeria, as allegations of misappropriation of a $20 million World Bank health grant have surfaced. The accusations leveled by Governor Ademola Adeleke against his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, have sparked a heated debate in the state.
According to reports, Adeleke petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Oyetola for alleged money laundering, financial misconduct, and violations of the Public Procurement Act. The petition claims that Oyetola mismanaged the health grant, which was intended to improve the state’s healthcare system.
In response to the allegations, Oyetola’s supporters have accused Adeleke of engaging in a political witch-hunt. However, Adeleke maintains that the allegations are based on evidence and are not motivated by politics.
The controversy has also implicated Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, who allegedly compiled documents to support the allegations against Oyetola. Alimi has been accused of having a personal vendetta against Oyetola.
Adebayo Adeleke, a former commissioner, has also been drawn into the controversy. He has been accused of fraudulently obtaining contracts and signing cheques for his company while serving as commissioner.
