Ahead of Thursday’s PDP NEC meeting, key party leaders, including five governors, gathered for a crucial caucus session.
The strategic gathering took place Wednesday evening at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, hosted by Governor Bala Mohammed.
Governor Mohammed, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, convened the meeting to build consensus among the party’s leadership.
The PDP NEC meeting is expected to ratify decisions from the National Working Committee (NWC), including convention preparations.
Notably, five serving PDP governors were present at the high-level session: Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau),
Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), who led discussions on party unity and direction.
Also in attendance were prominent national figures such as PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
Several respected members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) also participated, further signaling the session’s strategic significance.
The meeting, held behind closed doors, aimed to align party stakeholders ahead of the national elective convention timeline.
This caucus represents ongoing efforts to rebuild internal cohesion, particularly as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
With increasing calls for stronger opposition unity, the PDP leadership appears determined to resolve internal disagreements early.
By fostering cooperation through such strategic gatherings, party leaders hope to reposition the PDP as a viable alternative in 2027.
The upcoming NEC meeting will likely address structural reforms, zoning arrangements, and consensus-building for the convention.
In addition, party sources suggest the NEC may introduce new guidelines to reinforce accountability within the PDP’s national framework.
This political development follows earlier consultations by top leaders seeking to reconcile aggrieved members and clarify 2027 strategies.
Governor Bala Mohammed urged stakeholders to act in unity, emphasizing that “internal strength ensures electoral victory.”
