Peter Obi 2027 presidential bid gained momentum as Datti Baba-Ahmed publicly endorsed his return under Labour Party.
Speaking Wednesday on Channels TV’s The Morning Brief, Baba-Ahmed expressed strong support for Obi’s potential 2027 candidacy.
He stated that Peter Obi remains free to run for president, regardless of whether they team up again.
“I have great respect for him. I welcome him. The Labour Party welcomes him back,” Baba-Ahmed said confidently.
He encouraged Obi to seek the Labour Party ticket again and run in 2027, with or without him.
According to Baba-Ahmed, Nigeria urgently needs competent leaders who can govern responsibly and deliver on their promises nationwide.
He criticized politicians who promise progress during campaigns but deliver failure and hardship once elected into public office.
“We want capacity, not chaos. We want development, not disappointment. Nigeria must stop electing leaders who offer disaster,” he stressed.
When asked about Obi’s role in the opposition coalition, Baba-Ahmed rejected claims of anti-party behavior outright.
“This is no anti-party act. It’s an evolving political arrangement involving parties, interest groups, and private citizens,” he explained.
He added that Peter Obi remains free to attend coalition meetings and explore alliances that align with public interest.
Speaking further, Baba-Ahmed strongly supported a southern presidency in 2027, insisting zoning must reflect national balance and equity.
He maintained that Nigeria’s future depends on leadership that prioritizes competence over party identity or ethnic affiliations.
In 2023, Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed ran as presidential and vice-presidential candidates on the Labour Party platform.
Despite their strong campaign, they finished third as INEC declared Bola Tinubu the winner of the tightly contested poll.
Baba-Ahmed’s remarks reinforce speculation about Obi’s future and the strategic role opposition coalitions will play in 2027..
