Former Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Usani Usani, has confirmed his APC exit, blaming the party’s abandonment of its founding values.
Speaking in Calabar, Usani addressed a political gathering where he was officially introduced as the ADC South-South Vice Chairman.
He explained that his conscience rejected APC because the party no longer represented its promises or principles to Nigerians.
According to him, remaining in APC would compromise his lifelong commitment to justice, transparency, and a democratic political process.
Usani told supporters that the shrinking democratic space in Cross River State frustrated his legitimate gubernatorial ambition significantly.
He added that the political atmosphere in APC left no room for true competition or ideological progress in the state.
After stepping down as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs in May 2019, he took a break from partisan political engagement.
In 2022, Usani officially joined the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) in a bid to pursue his Cross River governorship dream.
Though that attempt did not succeed, Usani maintained that his passion for politics remained rooted in national service and reforms.
Interestingly, Usani has now reconciled with former Governor Liyel Imoke, the ADC’s political leader in Cross River State.
He noted that their political disagreements were never personal and were fully addressed through formal party reconciliation channels.
“When former Governor Imoke called about ADC unity, I responded positively because I have deep respect for him,” Usani stated.
He emphasized that once political issues are formally discussed and exhausted, he moves forward without holding personal grudges.
Usani’s decision adds momentum to ADC’s South-South growth and deepens the region’s challenge to APC’s dominance in coming elections.
